Summer Breeze & Raspberry Dreams

From our garden of earthly delights comes raspberry custard tart with maple-raspberry sour cream on top.

July. Heat and sunshine. Thunderstorms. Sultry and sweaty. Mosquitoes and butterflies. Fireflies. Japanese beetles. Woods are loudly green and prickly. Sweet corn. Summer squash. Puppy dozes on cool wood floor. Deer munch rows of beans to the very last pod. Cicadas begin their fall hum early. Tomatoes are slow this year. Anise hyssop. Purple coneflower. Daylilies. Salmo Pond. Pulling weeds. Picked and jarred for winter- honeyberries, strawberries, juneberries, mulberries, raspberries, blackberries, goji berries. Awaiting the first aronia berry. Speckled young robins and adolescent fox pups still gorging on sweet mulberries, raspberries, and blackberries. Not for long. More mosquitoes. Cadmium yellow hue. Indian yellow. Pthalo blue. Here come basil and beets. Alizarin crimson. Homemade dill pickles. Hoping for a breeze.
